I read the article the horrific labor practices behind your iphone by Sophia Cheng ,In this article Foxconn Technology Group is talking about  getting rid of people in there factory and putting robots in.This is one of the ideas that the company has to reduce the suicide rates of the iphone company workers. From 2007 -2010 twenty five worker have attempted suicide with twenty one succeeding  "With a labor force of 1.2 million people, Foxconn is China’s largest private employer and biggest exporter".The highest payed employees are only getting $1.18 an hour .The conditions the employees are working in are notorious conditions. They are not allowed to stretch or talk and are only allowed 10 min bathroom breaks. They do all this to keep them from having any type of social life. "Industry analyst estimates that Apple spends only $9 on labor for every $499 iPad. That $9 is apparently too expensive, since Foxconn has been taking steps to lower labor costs, first with the inland factories and now with the introduction of a one-million robot workforce."

when I read this article i thought another sweat shop whats new it happens all over the world. Then i stopped to read this article and it mad me really upset, that they are treating their workers in such an inhumane way not allowing them to make any type of connection. Then of course they are committing suicide they have no one to talk to can you imagine if you never had a friend to talk to and vent to how much built up stress you would have.I think that we should not switch to robots so many people are going to lose their jobs and then how are they going to feed their families and where are they going to live. The workers get provided a room kind of like a dorm that they live in.So they would not only lose there job they would lose food and a roof over there Head although yes we do have the technology to have robots do the work is it really such a good idea to do so right now .

  1. I agree that we should not have robots take over are work forces because your right no one would have any money to help them survive. It is also depressing that men are committing suicide because they think that is the right way to go, but its not and it is not healthy that they cannot talk to anyone while they are working because no one will know how anyone is feeling. I also think that if they got better pay than the suicide rate would go down because they might feel a little more respected for their hard work. I also think the boss is cutting back money so he can have more for himself.

  2. Hey Kristy, I can't believe they are replacing people and putting in robots. Yes that will save some money but if you think about it the technology that people need to have for these so call robots cost money. Also I don't get how people are committing suicide towards this.I agree with you not having robots have people's job. Everyone will not be able to afford rent or food for their families.I did not know any of this would or is happening right now.
